#588, the “final” issue of the Fantastic Four, is a silent memorial to the Human Torch. A “month of mourning” shows the reactions of Reed, Sue, Ben and the kids to the loss of Johnny Storm. Sue’s shutdown, Reed’s face to face with a gloating Annihilus and Ben’s friends Hulk and Thor helping him let out the pain in the cathartic wanton battle and destruction.
I found this Nick Dragota panel from the funeral particularly beautiful.

But I still think he’s not dead. If he was it would have been his desecrated corpse and not just torn bits of his uniform that Annihilus waved at Reed. Speaking of Annihilus, from the look on Valeria’s face he better watch his ass.
